1. What are ergonomics?
Ergonomics are the scientific study of human work conditions, especially the interaction between man and a machine.
2. What is:
a) RISK
The possibility of suffering harm or loss; danger.
b) DANGER
Exposure or vulnerability to harm or risk.
c) HAZARD
is the potential to cause harm to a person or to the natural environment.
3. In the Office, what risks and hazards are there?
- People trying to carry to many boxes, so they then can not see where their going and could trip over.
- Smoking, the cigarette could fall onto paper and could lead to a fire.
- Shelves too high, so people stand on an unsteady chair to reach, they could fall off.
4. What are the correct steps to lift a heavy printer?
Before you lift a heavy object, make sure you have a firm footing. If the object is lower than your waist, keep your back straight and bend at your knees and hips, do not lean forward! Try to get someone else to help you if the object is an awkward shape.
5. Find out the correct way to set up your workstation. Diagrams are useful.
1.Visual Display Terminals (VDT) within the normal cone of the vision (0˚ to 30˚)
2. Ears, Shoulders, and hips line up vertically
3. Elbows bent at 90˚ angle while using keyboard (range 70˚ to 100˚) upper arm pointing towards floor
4. Elbows bent at 90˚ angle while using mouse
5. Hips as far back as possible and bent at 100˚ to 120˚
6. No sharp edges pressing into employee
7. VDT at proper viewing distance
8. Adequate thigh and leg clearance
9. Knees bent at a 90˚ angle (range 70˚ to 110˚)
10. Feet supported.

6. What is an emergency?
An emergency is a situation which poses an immediate risk to health, life, property or environment. Most emergencies require urgent intervention to prevent a worsening of the situation.
7. Name 4 possible emergency situations we could have at the collage.
- There could be an electrical fault that causes a fire.
- Something important could get stolen
-Violence could break out
-a bomb threat
8. How do you as a student report a hazard or risk here at collage?
Tell the people at the front desk, and then they will report it to maintenance through electronic devices.
9. How do you report a security incident here at collage?
Same as above.
10. What security incidents could you encounter at collage?

- break-ins
11. What is OHS?
Occupational health and safety (OHS) refers to the legislation, policies, procedures and activities that aim to protect the health, safety and welfare of all people at the workplace.
12. What is the emergency evacuation procedure for this block (C BLOCK)?
Take the stairs to the grassed area, closest to the road.

14. What ACT covers OHS in Western Australia?
The title of the OHS legislation in Western Australia is the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984. It is an Act to promote and improve standards for occupational safety and health and to establish the Worksafe Western Australia Commission. The Act also facilitates the co-ordination of administration of the laws relating to occupational safety and health.

3. Multimedia has a large number of uses. They are diverse and it is often used in places you never expect.

A) Computing and Networking.
b. Explain how multimedia is used in that industry.
A) Computers and the internet are a huge part of multimedia. Without computers then you wouldn’t have all the software and hardware that you need to make and edit things such as audio and video. Networking and the internet helps you to locate the information that you need to download certain softwares to help in the process of multimedia.
4. Locate three magazines that deal with one or more aspects of multimedia.
a. These magazines may be in print or electronic in format.
b. They may include podcasts and other electronic forms.
c. When you have found them, explain what area or areas they cover within multimedia.
A) Australian PC User: This magazine does annual reviews on nearly all areas of multimedia and its equipment. It comes out once a year in print form.
CodingForums.com: This is an on-line magazine based on graphics and multimedia discussions, like a blogging site.
Print Media Management: This magazine can be either read over the internet or purchased in print form. Its main topic is printers and it has sub topics based on printing.
